Remembering Grace Brown in the North Woods

Thank you, Forever Wild, SUNY Cortland’s summer enrichment program for K-12 teachers, for inviting me to Camp Huntington on Raquette Lake to talk about my novel, A Northern Light. I was privileged to spend time with an incredible group of educators, all of whom inspired me with their passion and dedication.

A young woman named Grace Brown was the inspiration for A Northern Light and this week marks the 118th anniversary of her death. I can never visit the Adirondacks without thinking of her, and grieving for her, and wondering what her life would have been if she’d been allowed to live it.
